Simulation is the way forward to gain a true insight...

Admissions officers at UK medical or dental school want to see that a student is dedicated by having gained a related medical/dentistry work placement. This is particularly important within medicine and dentistry as students need to show that they have spent time investigating their future career choice to make sure that it is the right one for them. 5 or more years are a long time to spend studying without having experienced what the end profession is like.

These days it is almost assumed that every medical/dental applicant has gained work experience. It is important to spend time sending your CV and letters to hospitals, GP surgeries, NHS work places well in advance of the UCAS deadline.

During the M&D Pre-Med, as early as the first term, students will be offered the chance to work as a team and also lead within a high facility simulation centre at Barts & The London Hospital. Simulation not only prepares doctors and nurses with the techniques needed within theatre or a busy A&E department, but also allows first year students to experience working under pressure when a patients life is in their hands.

The M&D Experience

The M&D Group also offers students the M&D Experience. A 1-day conference packed with hands-on, practical experience and information to help you gain in-depth insight into the world of medicine/dentistry. Sessions are run by professionals in the fields who want to expose the reality of the medical/dental field.

Once you have attended the day, you will have gained a solid foundation of knowledge about medicine/dentistry and how to tackle the dreaded application. You are informed about the positives and negatives of the profession and will therefore be more certain about whether or not it is a career you want to pursue.
